A few weekend favorites:

A few weekend favorites:

Is it over already?? It seems like this weekend was shorter than usual! Oh, it did to you too?? Maybe it was that hour we all lost ((boo))!! We squeezed in a lot even with a shrunken weekend. For starters, I hit the trifecta of estate sales! Three within a ΒΌ mile of each other in the Hills of Nichols.

I took the Brod with me and he watched his momma work. We camped out early Friday morning to get a coveted spot in line & waited in the cold for the sale to open. This homeschool momma took advantage of the wait & he worked on grammar and spelling, yay!

We buzzed around the sales and had quite a nice time. We met the current Governor of Oklahoma ((who apparently likes estate sales as much as I do)) & Brody found a few vintage pocket knives and a bicentennial silver dollar. One of the pocket knives actually has some value & I think Brod is planning to sell.

The other boys were so envious of Brody’s finds that they are begging to come with me next time. ((YAY!!)) I love companionship during my estate sell mornings and finally figured out how to lure the boys — weapons and money.

I found a trove of vintage cookbooks!

  • A few vintage Fannie Farmer cookbooks
  • A vintage, 1959 Culinary Arts Institute entitled “My Favorite Recipes” – full of recipes submitted by the instructors

image

  • San Fransisco Encore – written by the SanFran Junior League. In light of my recent trip to the Bay Area, I am extra excited about this find! It has a wonderful culmination of ethnically diverse recipes.

  • My most favorite vintage cookbook find is “The are of German Cooking and Baking” originally penned in 1909. I have the 1946 revised edition ((which appears to be worth around $50)). I am having the best time scanning these vintage classic German recipes. I think there may be some champagne cream & schnitzel in my future ((not in the same bite))! There will, however, be no head cheeses, no fried pigeons, no goose liver pie, no larded braised calf’s liver & no liver dumplings.

I also found a vintage Tupperware bowl! Now, I am sure you have seen this before, right?? Your grandma had one or momma?? Well, I paid $3 for this 14″ diameter lovely green bowl with the matching lid. Finally, I have the perfect storage bowl for watermelons and large salads!! You should check out what these babies are selling for on eBay ((on a good day)) — wow!

Cheese spreaders were bountiful this weekend, and for $1 or $2 each, I couldn’t leave them behind. One of them is walnut ((I think)) handled & was 50Β’! According to eBay, that was a find! There will be some cheese spreading going on in my kitchen for sure, ha!

I love this little collection of classics I selected out of the stacks and stacks of vintage books. Not only are they literary treasures, they are gorgeous from an interior design perspective. Can’t wait to find a corner for them to brighten!

My last find is this beautiful robin’s egg blue speckled platter. Isn’t it so cute for Spring??

For the life of me. I cannot make out this marking — “B….eΒ΄”?? Underneath were the words Made in the USA ((I think)).

The men folk also dug out a nice patch of ground for my upcoming vegetable garden! They worked so hard– I can’t wait to get the beds formed! Let there be green!! I fed them good for their toils, see:

Puffy Indian Tacos — they were so tasty, but a little tough. My momma made these when we were little and I am needing a tutorial before I share the recipe officially! Regardless of the tough texture, the herd ate every last bit! I have some perfecting to do, but a recipe will be coming soon, I promise. So get your peanut oil ready!
