The FAB 5 ((my handiest kitchen tools))

The FAB 5 ((my handiest kitchen tools))

I can’t stand clutter, I work hard to keep piles to a minimum. But with a family of 6 I feel like  I am swimming up-stream most of the time. I often find myself purging ‘stuff’ and plotting for my next garage sale or donation drop-off. I say all of this to emphasize, what ‘junk’ I have must be purposeful or else it’s outta here!

There are a few kitchen tools that I love so much, no matter how many times I reduce, these will stay forever. What tools do you have that have earned lifetime status in your kitchen drawers?? I would love to know.

Today I am sharing my Fab 5 – the best of the best.

1) Microplane zester: this is my secret weapon when adding healthiness to a dish. It zests carrots, celery and more…allowing ‘tear-jerking veggies to go unnoticed. Makes momma happy to sneak healthy food into my kiddos & makes them happy that they don’t know what hit ’em.

2) Multi-measuring cup: I picked this one up at an estate sale and it was totally worth the 10¢ I paid for it. Can you see the demarcations? I can use this one measuring cup to measure Â¾ c flour, Â½ c sugar and Â¼ c oats! No more ratting around to find the missing measuring cup – this one covers everything ((boths thirds and fourths!)).

 3) Garlic press: what can I say? good-bye stinky hands! Kuhn Rikon is the brand I love.

4) Wooden tongs: when you need tongs, nothing else can substitute. I particularly love these wooden ones because they won’t scratch my Le Creuset ((also great for non-stick cookware)).

5) An extra-wide, extra-long, heavy-duty spatula: this one made by All Clad is a doozie. It is the only spatula I own that can perfectly transfer a giant, warm & oozie cookie from the baking sheet to the cooling rack without resulting in a broken cookie. When I need exactly 27 cookies for school snack and my double batch of giant cookies only produced 28…I have none to spare ((momma needs a taste test!)). It also works great for delicate fish, french toast, my Italian Herbed Salami Sandwiches and so much more.

I hope you have enjoyed reading about my Fab 5. It was so hard to pick just 5…as I was writing this 3 more of my musts popped into my head. So get ready, there will be a part 2 soon.
