A little glimpse into my home…

A little glimpse into my home…

I will soon be doing a few posts about my paint colors, some finishes including my walnut slab island and my flooring choices ((tile, stained concrete etc)). But before I begin sharing some of my favorite home design details, I want to tell you ((again)) about one of my favorite kitchen details… my copper farmhouse single basin kitchen sink.

About a year ago, I wrote a detailed review of my sink including my concerns and hopes — and my thoughts after living with the sink for a year.

You can read that post HERE. Even a year later – I am so happy with this sink. It almost seems alive! Every so often,  the patina is removed from part of the sink when food, dishes or acidic liquids get left on the surface of the copper ((it is David’s fault, mostly, haha – or at least I will blame him, smirk)). When that happens the sink looks like this:

But, trust me – in a few days these bright marks will be gone and the dark colors will be even. It will be as if David never broke the kitchen rules. Hey, one less reason to have a tiff! Whew.

Want to see for yourself? I will add a photo of what the sink looks like three days from now. Come back and take a peek. ((ps I SUPER love the extra large single basin, I will never chose a divided kitchen sink again!!))

In my original review was recently featured on the Sinkology blog, please check out their site and blog! And, take a glimpse at how they incorporated my post into their page. I am super excited & privileged to see my words on their site. I may have to come up with an excuse to add more copper to my life, aren’t their sinks gorgeous??

And, I want to give you a glimpse into my powder bathroom, where I also chose a copper sink.

Throughout the home, I have blended light and dark grays with a few shades of my favorite color in the world :: green/deep aqua. There are a few accents of navy & harvest in addition to some walnut, oak and fir pieces throughout.

I won this green/aqua-gray wallpaper ((YAY)) and knew it would be perfect in this little bathroom nook ((LOVE this paper by Candice Olson)). The colors in this room are reminiscent of copper oxidation and I felt like the bathroom was just BEGGING for a pop of copper.

I sketched out my vision for the table style vanity, with the intent of adding a handled copper vessel sink. The trim carpenter didn’t quite get the table as “rustic farmhouse” as I wanted, but I am still happy with the look — because the sink is the crown jewel. Isn’t is gorgeous?? The red, brown tones are just juicy. I could not be happier!!

This sink is so easy to care for, just an occasional wipe down to remove any water spots using a damp cloth and she is back to her beautiful self.

I think this may be my favorite room in the house – the potty room. Well, let’s call it the “pretty” room instead. That sounds much better!
