Homemade Hot Honey

Homemade Hot Honey

It seems like everywhere I turn, there’s a new recipe or menu item that uses hot honey as it’s star ingredient. So what is Hot Honey and how can you make it yourself?!

Hot Honey is a mixture of spicy ingredients (like chili peppers or crushed red pepper flakes) and honey. It’s actually very simple to make and is super adaptable to your personal heat and flavor preferences.

Here’s what you’ll need ::

  • honey (I prefer local clover honey)
  • pepper sauce (or hot sauce depending on what you call it)
  • crushed red pepper flakes
  • dehydrated peppers (optional)

Simply combine all of the ingredients in a small saucepan and bring to a low simmer for 2-3 minutes.

Once the honey has simmered for 2-3 minutes, remove from the flame and store in an airtight jar in the refrigerator for 1 -2 months.

Homemade Hot Honey is the perfect combination of sweet + heat AND it’s so very easy to make!

I love the flavor of homemade hot honey, that perfect balance of sweet + heat AND it’s so simple to make! Whether it’s served over a biscuit or a burger, you’ll be glad you know how to whip up this simple sauce!

Homemade Hot Honey

  • 1 c honey
  • 2 T hot sauce (I like Frank’s Red Hot Pepper Sauce)
  • 1 T crushed red pepper flakes (more or less depending on your heat preferences)
  • 2-3 dehydrated peppers (optional*)

Combine all ingredients in a small saucepan over medium flame. Bring to a low simmer for 2-3 minutes.

Remove from heat and pour into a 1/2 pint-sized heat proof sealable jar.

Cover with a lid and refrigerate 1-2 months.

Use as a drizzle topping or as part of a marinade.

*I find dehydrated peppers in the Hispanic or international section of the grocery store.
