Mini Birthday Cookie Sandwiches, with Homemade Birthday Cake Buttercream

Sigh. Gracie did it. She went and added another finger to her age — and to make matters worse, that particular finger is on her second hand.  Well, and I didn’t even mention the trifecta of heartache :: she lost her first tooth ((twice, that is a story for another day)) too! All this gibberish is code for Gracie turned 6. And with that milestone, my heart lost a little piece of itself.

There must be 2 types of moms, well maybe 3: Continue reading

Triple Ginger Sugar Cookies with Crystalized Ginger Buttercream

My plan for this cookie recipe was engineered as I munched on one of my favorite Trader Joe’s treasures: the Triple Ginger Snap. You may wonder how, out of all of the TJ’s wonders and confections, a ginger snap could ever be a favorite. Well, it is really all about it’s superiority over all other snaps. With the trifecta of gingers ((powdered, fresh & crystallized)), your socks are officially blown off a few bites into the first snap; at the very moment you realize you are picking bits of sweet, peppery candied ginger out of your teeth. Old-Fashioned Fresh Strawberry Sheet Cake & Stove-Top Strawberry Buttercream

This cake is a twist on one of my all-time favorite cakes EVER — the White Texas Sheet Cake. We recently celebrated dad’s birthday, and I got the pleasure of making him his birthday cake. Before the party, I was talking with dad and he said Continue reading

Brown Sugar Sheet Cake with Salted Caramel Stove-Top Buttercream

I have had my “stuck on a deserted island with one food” scenario planned out for years ((um, Chick-fil-A original chicken sandwich)). But after taking the first bite of this cake, I officially changed my mind. This cake — no kidding. If I was stuck in a deserted island and could only eat one food for the rest of my life, I would choose this cake. Now, if I could just find that deserted island. Continue reading

The Perfect Milk Chocolate Buttercream ((6 minute Buttercream))

Homemade buttercream is on my shortlist of favorite things. I won’t say NEVER, but I cannot imagine myself ever buying canned frosting. Not when the real deal is so easy and magnificently tasty. Another bonus? The ingredient list doesn’t sound like instructions for a chemistry experiment!

Wedding Cake in a Jar — this will change your life!!

I am in love with this dessert! Yes, I think I want to marry it. I mean, who doesn’t LOVE wedding cake?? This girl sure loves a good piece of wedding cake!

I began dreaming of putting all of the perfect wedding cake elements into a little jar several months ago, when I started planning my cousin’s wedding shower. I immediately knew what type of wedding cake Continue reading

Banana Chocolate Chip Cake with Stovetop Caramel Buttercream ((Birthday Cake time!!))

Whew!! What a cake this is! But before I tell you all about this cake, let me tell you a little about the birthday boy. He was born 11 years ago today at 4:06 am. I am so proud of the fact that he was born in the middle of the night mostly because all of my other babies came around lunchtime with “planned” deliveries ((none were textbook and ho-hum but those are stories for another day)).  Continue reading

The Very Best Cookie Recipe ((“Swig” Sugar Cookies))

Last weekend we had my favorite kind of weather! It was so cold and overcast and the biggest juiciest snowflakes fell for hours! I have not seen such a pretty snow all year! With such gorgeous winter weather outside, I was inspired to bake inside. While the kiddos went sledding on our secret hill, I stayed behind and did a search on Pinterest using these words “the best cookie recipe ever”.

Birthday Cake Cheesecake with Sweet Almond Buttercream & Sprinkles

Cheesecake is Shepy Ray’s favorite dessert. So, as his 9th ((wow — seems like he should be 4, sniff)) birthday approached, I started making cheesecake plans. Shepy wanted Sour Cherry Topped Homemade Vanilla Cheesecake. However, I had something more birthday-ish” in mind. Something sprinkl-ey and layered with buttercream. Yes, I went there! I combined the perfect buttercream cake & the perfect cheesecake into one dessert. And I liked it.  Continue reading
