Grilled Ginger Balsamic Flank Steak
As the temperatures begin to rise, backyard cooking/grilling and dining is a regular event in my weekly routine! One of our favorite and most frequent meals is Grilled Ginger Balsamic Flank Steak.
Delicious and Figure Friendly!
Not only is the recipe DELICIOUS, it’s also so easy to prepare AND it’s friendly on my waistline (you know what I mean, right?).
The key to this recipe is TIME. Give the marinade ingredients maximum time to soak their flavors into the flank steak by assembling this 4-6 hours (up to overnight) before grilling.
The Secret Weapon for MAX Flavor
The balsamic vinegar is a secret weapon in limiting calories and fat while really ‘bringing it‘ in the flavor department. An extra bonus in using balsamic vinegar in this marinade is that it works to create an extra tender flank steak.
When used as a marinade, balsamic vinegar brings flavor AND tenderness.

Oh my this is yummy – even better than the photos, I promise! Tender, full of ginger, garlic and sweet balsamic vinegar flavors, this flank steak recipe is part of my Spring + Summer MEAL SURVIVAL Guide.
Grilled Ginger Balsamic Flank Steak
- 1 lb flank steak
- 1/2 c balsamic vinegar
- 1 medium onion, diced or sliced
- 1 jalapeño pepper, diced
- 1/4 c chopped cilantro
- 2 T minced ginger
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 t (ea) sea salt & ground black pepper
Mustard Balsamic Dipping Sauce
- 1/4 c yellow mustard
- 1/4 c balsamic vinegar
In a shallow baking dish, combine all ingredients. Be sure to spread the marinade over and under the flank steak.
Cover and refrigerate 4-6 hours up to overnight.
Prepare grill. Once the grill is hot, place the marinated flank steak over the hottest part of the grill, flipping halfway through to reach desired doneness. *(for reference) I prefer a doneness of MEDIUM – total cooking time for the steak pictured was 10-12 minutes.
TIP :: For a thicker flank steak, you may need to cover with a grill lid to raise the internal temperature.
Slice the flank steak perpendicular to the grain. Serve by itself, over a salad or as a filling in tacos.
Dipping Sauce ::
In a small bowl, combine equal parts :: mustard and balsamic vinegar. Use as a salad dressing or dipping sauce for the steak.
