Trip of a Lifetime ((part 5 – the end)) expectations…exceeded

Trip of a Lifetime ((part 5 – the end)) expectations…exceeded

This story as been harder to write than I first anticipated ((and longer than I thought it would be too)). Originally, I thought 2 parts would cover it. However, as I began writing it out, sections and divisions became clearer to me. Each portion of this […]

A trip of a Lifetime ((can this count as 2 Tips of the Week?)) part one

When you hear nothing from me for this long of a stretch, you can be sure it is not for a lack of things to say, haha.  Words have been bursting forth in my mind, but time to sit and compose has been nonexistent. I am […]

Top Hikes & Eats On ((or near)) Orcas

Top Hikes & Eats On ((or near)) Orcas

After 3 trips to the San Juan Islands over the last 4 years ((read about are trip 2 years ago HERE)), I definitely feel as though that place is a second home. The first time we went, Gracie was only 2 – so our experiences were limited. The second time we went, Shep and I never left the house until he was medi-flighted off of the island. So this time, we ventured out! We took new hikes, went to other parts of the island, tried a few restaurants and a bakery and even took the inter-island ferry to Friday Harbor three times.

With all the sights and tasty food we enjoyed this year, I decided to share some of my favorites. ((BUT, I really like the slower pace and small population of Orcas — so don’t visit. Just kidding, kind of.)) (more…)

Orcas Island Wild Plum Streusel

Orcas Island Wild Plum Streusel

Thanks to a wild ((or at the very least aged, unfettered & prolific)) plum tree and the kind-hearted generosity of my friend, Orcas Island potter, Mr. Weatherman, I have the pleasure of sharing this simple sour plum streusel. I went to visit Mr. Weatherman and his Olga […]

Bombshell Blondies ((or Double Chocolate Salted Blondies))

Bombshell Blondies ((or Double Chocolate Salted Blondies))

This is one of those recipes that can be called so many things and, although all of the names are pretty great, none of them compare to the utter amazingness of that first bite. Chocolate chunks mixed with a salty, brown sugar-rich dense, chewy, moist, […]

An Heirloom Recipe, a Bit of Life & a 90th Birthday!

When mom asked me to be thinking about what recipes we should make for snacks at grandma’s 90th birthday celebration, I immediately knew “the one” — the recipe that made me think of grandma every time I tasted it. Without a pause, I spouted out the name and mom wholeheartedly agreed. (more…)

Tartar Sauce made lite!! ((and a fishing story))

Tartar Sauce made lite!! ((and a fishing story))

Seems like Memorial Day and fish fry’s are our tradition. Striper is what we have most of  –  but I am hearing whispers of Crappie being part of this year’s fry day! Yum, Crappie is my all time favorite — more because of a memory, but the taste is still so amazing. (more…)
