Mini Birthday Cookie Sandwiches, with Homemade Birthday Cake Buttercream

Sigh. Gracie did it. She went and added another finger to her age — and to make matters worse, that particular finger is on her second hand.  Well, and I didn’t even mention the trifecta of heartache :: she lost her first tooth ((twice, that is a story for another day)) too! All this gibberish is code for Gracie turned 6. And with that milestone, my heart lost a little piece of itself.

There must be 2 types of moms, well maybe 3: Continue reading

Old-Fashioned Fresh Strawberry Sheet Cake & Stove-Top Strawberry Buttercream

This cake is a twist on one of my all-time favorite cakes EVER — the White Texas Sheet Cake. We recently celebrated dad’s birthday, and I got the pleasure of making him his birthday cake. Before the party, I was talking with dad and he said Continue reading

Brown Sugar Sheet Cake with Salted Caramel Stove-Top Buttercream

I have had my “stuck on a deserted island with one food” scenario planned out for years ((um, Chick-fil-A original chicken sandwich)). But after taking the first bite of this cake, I officially changed my mind. This cake — no kidding. If I was stuck in a deserted island and could only eat one food for the rest of my life, I would choose this cake. Now, if I could just find that deserted island. Continue reading

Creme Brûlée Bars

While meal planning for our yearly family vacay at the lake, I began daydreaming about dessert possibilities. I knew right off the bat I would be making these Cheesecake-filled Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars ((and they were SO good)). But I was torn over the next dessert — Table Rock in July needs Continue reading

Cheesecake-filled Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake

I have been searching for a yummy new bar cookie recipe and recently came across this recipe on Pinterest and knew I had found “the one”. I love the traditional brown sugar & butter rich chocolate chip cookie. But, I instantly became obsessed with the idea of stuffing classic cheesecake between two layers of cookie perfection!? Really, it wasn’t a matter of “IF” I would actually make this recipe — but “WHEN”.

Miss Colleen’s Perfect Pound Cake ((a time-tested vintage recipe))

Well over a year ago, I was visiting mom & dad’s church. Actually, I was visiting the church AND the potluck dinner & I tasted this pound cake — buttery, dense, moist with a hint of lemon. I instantly began searching for the baker who made such a delicious PERFECT pound cake. I was not surprised to learn Miss Colleen was the talent behind the cake. I asked if she would mind sharing her recipe and  Continue reading

I am in love with this dessert! Yes, I think I want to marry it. I mean, who doesn’t LOVE wedding cake?? This girl sure loves a good piece of wedding cake!

I began dreaming of putting all of the perfect wedding cake elements into a little jar several months ago, when I started planning my cousin’s wedding shower. I immediately knew what type of wedding cake Continue reading

Banana Chocolate Chip Cake with Stovetop Caramel Buttercream ((Birthday Cake time!!))

Whew!! What a cake this is! But before I tell you all about this cake, let me tell you a little about the birthday boy. He was born 11 years ago today at 4:06 am. I am so proud of the fact that he was born in the middle of the night mostly because all of my other babies came around lunchtime with “planned” deliveries ((none were textbook and ho-hum but those are stories for another day)).  Continue reading

Birthday Cake Cheesecake with Sweet Almond Buttercream & Sprinkles

Cheesecake is Shepy Ray’s favorite dessert. So, as his 9th ((wow — seems like he should be 4, sniff)) birthday approached, I started making cheesecake plans. Shepy wanted Sour Cherry Topped Homemade Vanilla Cheesecake. However, I had something more birthday-ish” in mind. Something sprinkl-ey and layered with buttercream. Yes, I went there! I combined the perfect buttercream cake & the perfect cheesecake into one dessert. And I liked it.  Continue reading

Spiced Buttercream — a simple recipe that changes everything.

I am in the middle of making a cake, not just ANY cake  — but a Pumpkin Spiced Cake with Warm Cinnamon Chips. I will be sharing that recipe soon, and when I do I will add the link ((HERE — but I haven’t written that recipe out yet)).
